Recent Arts / Photography Discussions:
Am I Too Weird Of A Person? I Am...?
I am a huge anime/manga fan-but I don't consider myself a weeaboo. Weeaboos are people that are obsessed to the point they think they're Japanese and it's a bit creepy in my opinion (my best friend is a weeaboo). I hate rap, hip hop, R&B and some pop music, but I love nearly anything Japanese and anything by Linkin Park or Evanescence. I feel a connection with the last three that I can't really describe but it helps me when I'm depressed-which is often. I'm a student and in school I don't talk much in class unless our teachers allow us too, and I study a lot so people call me a nerd and don't want to talk to me unless it's to torment me or be my project partner for "an easy A". I don't like profanity and the "N word" offends me more than anything else in the world, along with the word that starts with a P and ends with a Y. I'm extremely tall, even for an adult (in America) but I'm also very shy and I unintentionally push people away with my unsocial attitude and short, "snappy" answers. I value friendships, I really do, but talking and interacting doesn't come easily to me and I often study people to see how they react and reply in conversations. I rarely leave me house-or room-unless I must or am planning to go to the mall or store, which isn't often and I'm usually on my desktop or laptop. I read waaaay more than I should and I also dress "weird" in Harajuku inspired outfits, like the picture below:

...
A lot of people say they don't like me because I dress weird or I'm just weird, but I'm not so sure.

What are good majors to go with a Film minor?
I'm graduating with an Associate in Art this semester and I'm going to recieve my Bachelor in Art with a major in Graphic Design and a minor in Photography.
When I was younger I wanted to go to Film school, but I was perauaded not to do so. For my Masters I want to minor in Fim, but I don't know what major would go well with that.
What would go well with a minor in Film? Something like Marketing or Journalism?
Also, what schools out there offer Film as a minor?
Is there a High Dynamic Range (HDR) Camera? Or are they all composites?
I have the opportunity to work for a real estate photography company however most of my experience is in fine art. They are well aware of my inexperience. I was asked to shoot a few HDR shots to prove that I can do it. I have done a few composites but I really don’t know that much about HDR, which I also told them. When I hung up with them I started wondering if there was an hdr camera and if that’s what they meant? Before the next contact I have with them I would like to do some research. Yahoo Answers is the fastest way to getting a quick answers. My camera is a Canon Rebel T3i.
Best beginners slr camera?
I am a beginner in photography and haven't owned an SLR camera before, but I am serious about learning it and next year I would like to take a GCSE in photography. I am really into the art side of photography and am not a person that just wants to point a shoot on holiday ect.
I want a beginners SLR camera which is really great quality and has many features and modes.
I would like something under £650.
I have been looking at the Nikon d3100 and d5100 which look really good.
Can anyone give me any advise on what camera I should buy?
I want to start to get into photography. Any advice?
I really want want purely because i am genuinely interested in the art of taking magnificent photographs of landscapes, sceneries and food (since I'm starting a home bakery business) etc. not just to show off an over price camera like most teenagers. Any advice for me? I'm thinking about getting a Canon 650D when it comes out. Is it hard to be a photographer? is there a lot to study in a DSLR?
Could someone edit this to make it 250 words URGENT!!! plz help?
The making of art has always been a big part of my life.but I was not happy just drawing and painting. I wanted to experience, to learn, to create in every medium. I was First attracted to Photography at a very young age because I viewed it as an art form not a trade. My parents still have some early photographs of mine, beautifully framed, and hanging in our home in Kingston. Although I have not had any professional experience I feel the personal experience I have gained over the many years in which I have been working on my own personal photography I feel it has tought me a lot more than any professional experience would have I have learned to create and problem solve and to teach myself new things and push the limits because of the lack of any other experience other then my own and other the my Grade eleven and twelve photography classes in high school I am solely a self taught photographer.
This is my passion I am a inspired, creative and unique photographer and have high professional goals for myself. Editorial photography is my main goal. I love portraiture wether done in a studio or on location and telling a story is always what I endeavor to do in my photographs. Editorial photography shows what words cannot communicate. in which case I could visually perceive myself with a magazine such as National Geographic. In choosing Sheridan's BAA(photography)program I feel I will facilely be able to reach these goals. The program would be able to prepare me for a high end career in editorial photography as well as other types of photography and will help me to better get across my conceptions in my photographs. With Sheridan being one of the best-equipped photography colleges in North America It will teach me every compulsory adeptness needed a along with opening up doors and giveing me opertunities to reach my goals that no other school would. Sheridan will teach me the essential skills that I will require to succeed, by being taught by successful photographers I will acquire the help and adivce that will help my move forward and improve along with it's fourteen week internship at the end of your third year you can experience more hands on photogrpahy as a career.
Thanks you so much for looking at my materials. I eagerly look forward to continuing my artistic and professional growth at Sheridan College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning in the BAA Photography program.
What is the best direction I should be taking in college?
Animation+GameDesign and Fine Art Drawing+Painting major at Kent State. Freshman. Really interested in video game design, Pixar-esque animation, digital concept painting, and, however unrelated, portrait/event/fine art photography. However I feel that I'm missing out on a better technically artistic education at somewhere like SCAD..which I know I'll go to grad school for, someday. But since the curriculum for the Fine Art major sort of isn't that great and I've been in Fine arts since high school (I'm a decent-good artist with room for improvement but an artist none the less) I wanted to do its BS in Photo-Illustration since it's a huge growing passion. However, visual effects is also something that is starting to interest me slightly and I have no idea if what I'll be studying at Kent can prepare me for that as well.
Option 1: stick it out for 4yrs@Kent and possibly miss out on more intricate classwork; double major in Anim/GameDesign, photo-ill. hopefully get ubisoft internship abroad. go back to SCAD to get MFA in anim or game design or visual effects, and maybe photo as well IF they accept the BS->MFA.
Option 2: two years at kent, transfer to SCAD, pay extra for the more years i'll be there, double major in game design and visual effects/ game design and animation/ game design and photography, minor in game concept art...internship, go back for MFA.
I'm just so overwhelmed by the different options between animation, game design, and visual effects and though I'm a good self taught photographer, I still would like to learn more and getting the highest degree in whatever I choose is a personal goal of mine anyway. Especially at SCAD, animation includes a lot of courses that don't interest me as much like stop motion, 2d; I wish the game design had less computing/programming and a few more character/creative writing and digital painting types of classes (though i know matte painting can be taken as well as dig.paint. in the concept art minor..) ; and as for visual effects, using it in film/movies is new and kinda intimidating to me since I've been set on game design for a while, but I feel like it would be just as useful at game companies too. THEN there's photography which is more "visual communication and design" oriented at Kent, and obviously more BFA/art orientated at SCAD. I would love nothing more than to major in that too, even though it's something I can continue and make a business out of on my own...
Again, I'm just so overwhelmed and confused, I know in the end it has to do with my knowledge of 3DSMAX, MAYA and Photoshop but I'm just nervous that I won't be taught enough.. Any Kent grads with my majors find the same success/teachings as they would at SCAD? Are game design and visual effects and animation very interchangeable? Which path should I be taking and what majors should I be doing? :\ If anyone has an opinion or knowledge or experience with these majors at Kent or SCAD I would honestly appreciate it so much.
Oh. and to any of you unartistic haters, these jobs on average pay from 50-60-80-over 100K as you gain seniority, sooo don't tell me I'm wasting my time and I'll end up poor. Obviously took that into consideration and I'm pretty sure I picked my artistic medium career choices well based on that. ;)
