Recent Arts / Photography Discussions:

Am I able to have two Bachelor's in the Fine Arts degrees?

I am going to be attending college for my BFA in photography in a few months. My plan was to go for my BFA in photography, then go back and do another four years for my BFA in the Fine Arts (since the college I'm attending has a program where you specialize in -just- one major. There's designated courses scheduled for each major, so I can't really double major). If I received my first BFA in photography, and I went back for my BFA in the fine arts (either at the same school or a different one), would I be able to just go for my Masters in the fine arts instead of just having two of the same degree, but a different focus? To make it easier to answer I'm going to Paier College of Art, Inc. in CT. I mainly just want to know the general information about whether the two BFA's could be able to become an MFA.

I want to be an artist but my parents want me to go school for business..?

I just finished my freshman year in college. I'm going to school for business. My parents pay everything I own or want. But they won't allow for me to take art classes. I love painting and drawing and I'm into photography. Sure business is alright but it's not what I like or want to do. I want to spend my life painting and capturing the wonders of the universe on my camera. What should i do? I want to tell my parents that I'm done with business. That I hate it. That I want to go to school and study art or photography....I know what they'll say..."Just go to school for business and continue your hobbies on the side" or something more demeaning. They keep telling me that I can get a good job with a business degree and that once I get my degree I can do my art. I am so lost and so sad and I just want to quit and lay in bed all the time. I don't want to disappoint my parents and I don't want to disappoint me. I feel as though this is a nightmare and I'm just waiting to wake up. But I know I won't. Because this is real. And I know because it's real that I won't always be happy but WHAT SHOULD I DO?

How do you create this? (photography and digital fantasy worlds) Link inside for examples.?

Everyone has seen it - a whimsical photograph of a model thrown into a digital fantasy world - mixing reality and fantasy. My question is - how do you do this? Do you have to create every bit of the world yourself? If so, what program do you use? Or can you use other works of art and use photoshop or something to mix the two? Here's a link to examples of what I'm talking about. What programs do I need and whose stuff can I use without it being considered stolen - or whatever. I just want to know where to begin to create my own images like these. http://www.rebecasarayphotography.net/workshop/muestras-e-informacin-talleres-presenciales-y-online Thank you!

Continue a degree I don't like, or start from scratch?

Well, here's the pickle. I'm approaching the end of my first year in a photography degree and have found that I'm not enjoying it one iota. I'm told that the second year is much, MUCH better, but I'm now reluctant that I want anything to do with photography. My university is a creative arts institution and having spoken to the head of English I've found that I'm guaranteed a place on next year's course. Now, this didn't seem like especially bad news, except I really don't want to start uni again, as it were. I have always loved writing and studying literature and philosophy (and to be honest I'm one of the only people on my course who isn't dyslexic) but I don't know if I should actually take the plunge, as it were. It could be the age-old case of the grass being greener on the other side, and that if I actually changed to English I would find myself no longer enjoying it- this is pretty much what happened with photography. So I can either stick out two more years where I could potentially be unhappy and wasting time and money on expensive shoots and photographic equipment and travel, etc, and become frustrated at the lack of intellectual discussion and the delusions of grandeur that many of my classmates seem to have. Or I could start again, on a degree that may not be right for me, burn my bridges and end up being throttled by the rise in fees (I'm in the last year who got off lightly), and have to spend another year being a 'newbie'. I don't know if it's a case of head versus heart, and I've ranted about this constantly to my friends and family and lecturer so it'd be good to get an impartial opinion. Cheers!

Which Of These A Levels Should I Take?

so when I'm older I'd like to do something in the music industry. I would love to be a music journalist for a magazine like Kerrang or Alternative Press because English is my strong point. If not my back up plans are to do something at a record company, write books, or something english or music related. I'd like to keep my options fairly open. These are the GCSEs I am taking: English Maths Chemistry Biology Physics Drama Geography Spanish Art Music I do NOT want to take music at A Level. I know it seems like an obvious option, but it's all music theory and I don't really see it as a necessity because I don't want to be anything like a producer or composer or songwriter. I know I definately want to take both English Language and Literature. But for my other two, I'm tied between photography, biology and drama. I know I can only take two of these but I'm really not sure. Or is there another subject I should take? Thanks for all your help :---)

help with history of photography?

I have some questions on the history of photography for this course I'm doing. I could look it up online, but I seem to be searching in all the wrong places so I came here. This is a study guide for a test on the history of photography and we're supposed to try and get as many of our questions right as possible so that we can go over them in class tomorrow for a last chance study type of thing. I have three questions on the whole study guide though. 1. The work of Group f/64 photographers is A. part of the FSA project. B. straight photography. C. part of the postmodernist movement. 2. Life Magazine was best known for A. starting new movements in the art world B. noncontroversial topics C. its powerful use of photojournalism to report the news. 3. Number the order in which they were invented, starting with the number 1 and ending with the number 5: first photograph, roll film, lens, negative, camera For question three I did some research so please correct me if I'm wrong....First came the camera, then the lens, then the first photograph, then the negative, and last the roll film? Is that right? Thanks to whoever decides to help!

Which of these people are making the best college decision?

Go to a 4 year university and take out student loans and major in environmental health. Go to cosmetology school and spend 10,000 dollars to become a hair stylist. Take out loans and go to art school and major in Photography. -Which of these people are most likely to find a job and which will make the most money?

Could you recommend a Laptop for me?

I'm a student doing art and design, photography, and ICT A levels in the UK. I'm in need of a new laptop since my current one at the moment is crumbling apart! I use Photoshop a lot to edit my pictures as well as draw for art on it. I download a lot of movies and a fair amount of music. I do have an external hard drive so any overspill can go there. I just have no idea which laptop to go for. I have my own iMac at home for most of my graphic design, so the laptop is really for softcore editing and browsing on the internet. If anyone can recommend me something for under £500 please reply!
