Recent Law Discussions:

If I amend a lease with pen, how binding is it? I adjusted one date, but the date was mentioned twice. Hawaii?

Hi guys, I moved to Hawaii on a whim and got stuck with a not very friendly landlord. Upon my arrival I was expecting a month to month contract, he sprang a "sign this 3 month lease or move out right now" on me. I told him I wasn't ok with that, and talked him down to a 2 month lease. With my pen I scratched out 3 months and wrote 2 months "_____ ________ hereby agrees to a lease of 3 months.." Lower in the contract is it mentioned again with the sentence saying only, "Lease is 3 months". I did not amend that part with the pen. We agreed verbally (my mistake) that I would give him at least 2 weeks notice before the end of each month if I was moving out. I gave him my 2 weeks today and he has suddenly forgotten our earlier conversation, saying he has 28 days starting now to find a new renter. Am I able to point to our original contract and show it represents only 3 months? Ironically the opposite of what I initially wanted.. If anyone is familiar with Hawaii law I would love to hear your advice! Thank you! Thank you both, @ Landlord, so that would mean the agreement is good for only 3 months, correct? And any days after the initial 3 month period I am not liable for? (We are at 2.5 months right now, I'm hoping to move out at the end of this current month, right on the 3 month mark).

I was wondering is it legal in Colorado for parents of small children?

smoke marijuana in the same house with them. They have no medical cards and also they also have marijuana seeds so they can start growing their own in the basement of their house. What is the legal law about this?

Legally separated soldier. A relationship with another resulting in a child.?

We have a soldier who is legally separated. He has a relationship with another girl which has resulted in a child. I understand there are dire ramifications under military laws re; adultery. But does he have any other options due to a child being involved

Any advice on how to proceed with the issue mentioned below?

Let's start at the beginning: a couple of months ago, I went to a party that was thrown by a young democrats group that operate on my campus. There was a really good looking guy at the party and he ended up getting really drunk (not a slobbering drunk, but an aggressive drunk). He kept hitting on me, and I liked the attention until I realized how drunk he was. I ended up leaving a little bit later, and throughout that night he messaged me about coming to my dorm and how he should have kissed me and stuff. I never wanted to have sex with him, and he's a lot older so I wasn't interested in anything like that. I told him that we should meet up and deal with the issue when he was sober enough to talk. When we met up, he said he meant everything he had said before (like how I was beautiful, and blah blah blah. Really uncomfortable). He said that it was an age thing that was keeping us from dating (I still told him I wasn't interested in dating him, but possibly seeing where things went). As I was leaving, he ended up telling me that he was in a relationship. I was upset, and left. He instigated everything except the meeting One of my friends, who knows the guy, ended up telling me that he was married and a youth pastor. Since then, I live with a constant nausea and I've been a lot more depressed than I have ever been. The president of the club said that he had talked to the guy about not drinking (but the guy still does), but this guy is on the executive board of the club and tight with the other members. I told the president that I still felt uncomfortable around this guy, and the president blew it off and said, "that must happen a lot when you're a pretty girl". The president also apologized on behalf of this guy, but only to keep me as a member of the club. Since then, I'm positive I've been sexually harassed by one of the other members and I know other male members who are lewd and vulgar around other girls who are part of the group. It seems like everything is ignored or swept under the rug. People don't believe me about how uncomfortable the guy makes me (I've had to go see a shrink to deal with it, and I've lost and gained so much weight from the stress) and don't believe that he did anything wrong. Because of the lack of attention that the incident received, the guy still goes to events, and as a result I'm no longer as involved as I once was. It's painful and stressful to be anywhere near him. I honestly feel like I was sexually harassed by drunk party guy; however, because of how connected he is and how much of a boy's club this organization is, I don't feel safe or secure going to anything. The club isn't really interested in dealing with him, and they're tired of hearing about the issue I had with him (they just want it to go away). I have no idea what to do. Since it's been almost 5 months and I still feel like crap, I personally feel that it is a big deal. It's just that I don't have any idea of how to move on (as far as if I should bring up my issue of discomfort, etc.), how to deal with it, or if it's something bigger than what I believe it to be. What he did really seems like it matches up with the definition of sexual harassment, but no one else seems to believe me or want to help me. Any advice? (I put this in law and ethics, but if you have personal experience that relates to this, that's fine too. I'm looking for any help possible. I just want to stop feeling depressed and miserable all of the time)

My dogs attacked a cat? What could happen now?

I have 2 staffy's (2 and 4yrs old), they are the most friendly, well trained dogs and have never ever bitten anybody. Every night i take them for a walk through this big park near us (everyone has dogs off the leash there, its allowed), but last night, after we left the park and were walking down the street home (still off the leash), they took off as fast as lighting because there was this cat sitting on the corner. They both chased it about 150m right down the street and under a car into the gutter where i watched them attack this poor cat. I was running after them yelling and when i got there i whacked them away. This poor cat was lying there barely moving but making noises with a bit of blood coming from its mouth. This old man came out from a house and came over and it was obviously his cat because he picked it up and took it inside. Anyway, i want to know what the laws are with this? What could happen? I dont know if the cat died or not, or if it was just in shock. I know my dogs shouldnt be off the leash, but they have NEVER hurt a thing or been viscious :( the cat was obviously more than 150m away from its own house, so not on its property either. What could happen, could the old man who owned the cat sue me? Thanks :(

Why do evolution deniers think anyone gives them any credibility about faith?

-- when they post such blatant nonsense about science? How can they view themselves as trusted sources for religion, when they continually post such obvious BS about reality? * Evolution has nothing to do with the "big bang." * Evolution has nothing to do with the 2nd law of thermodynamics. * Evolution has nothing to do with abiogenesis. * Evolution has nothing at all to do with the Christian belief in the salvation of souls. Evolution IS: the changes in the frequency of alleles in a population of organisms over multiple generations! These are both observable (by people with eyes & a brain) and verifiable with genetics. Genetics alone proves evolution outright! Open up a textbook & see for yourselves. Evolution explains the diversity of life and poses no conflict with faith in God or Christ, so why do you make a conflict where none is warranted? A public display of ignorance can only turn people away from God. So why do the JW, SDA, LDS, & So. Baptist cults keep posting these absurd claims like "evolution is a lie"? It happens to be the reason WHY we have diversity in lifeforms. It is NOT a "lie" it is a fact of life. A fact that is accepted by all the mainline denominations who have theologians and biblical scholars with far more credibility than your cult leaders. ANd for the love of GOD -- learn what a scientific THEORY is! It is NOT a "guess" or an "unproven hypothesis". All scientific Theories provide EXPLANATIONS FOR THE FACTS IN EVIDENCE. It's the FIRST definition - here: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/t… http://notjustatheory.com/ Babbling about things you don't know about only makes all CHristians look backward and delusional. How will lies, misinformation, and deceit bring souls to Christ? Here, if your not a member of a cult, then you should be allowed to research sources outside your own cult propaganda: http://www.proof-of-evolution.com/evolut… evolution.berkeley.edu BioLogos.org

California Paternity Law question

... can the proven father change the child's last name to the biological fathers last name?? Can the child's birth certificate be changed to include the biological father's information??

Which of these careers are the best?

I have been thinking about going to college to do sounds for video games. Yet I have also thought about going into law enforcement to become a police officer, and or a member of a SWAT team. I also looked into becoming a Secret Service agent. Which of these are the best? How hard is training for the law enforcement positions? Thanks.
