Recent Literature / Fiction Discussions:

Classic literature recommendations?

I read a lot but have realised recently how narrow my choices have been. If you were to recommend a classic novel what would it be and why. I'll read anything but science fiction/fantasy(sorry to the fans of those genres!)

I want to read some classics. What do you suggest (details inside) ?

I really want to become more...knowledgeable when it comes to classics. I'd call myself a good reader, a 6 and a half, if a10 were a prodigy in it. I usually can spot important details, use context clues if I'm not sure what a definition is (though my vocabulary is pretty extensive), and I always appreciate a piece a literature to the quality it deserves. I'm especially partial to romances. Meaningful, special ones. But I'm open to other genres. Historical fiction ones are intriguing. My reading speed is usually 3 days to a week. Three week to a month if it's like a 800 page novel that drags a lot. I'm nearly 16, by the way. Okay, thanks for the answers. :)

Need an answer to these 10 Trends and Issues on children Literature. Please Expain your answers. Thanks?

1.Who do you find reads the Young Adult books? 2.What is Dystopian Fiction? 3.Do you think that The Diary of a Wimpy Kid should be classified as horror? 4.Do you believe that books that refer to people with disorders send the wrong message? 5.Why should teachers keep an open mind when picking out books? 6.How can teachers use books to promote the SOL’s 7.How should teachers use books and diversity without being biased or racist? 8.Would you recommend non-gender based Literature for teachers? 9.Do you think multicultural books should be a requirement and the Material selected has been written and illustrated by individuals from that culture in order to obtain authentic representation? 10.Do you think Genres should be taught to children in school? Why and which ones?

Will Jehovah's Witnesses Please give consideration to the documented evidences shown here at YA?

In the last year, many documented and proven evidences of situations, incidences, and occurrences, involving the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society, were systematically presented for the consideration of all active, and non-active, and ex-members of Jehovah's Witnesses. These many documents have proven a "different" aspect of history of Jehovah's Witnesses, as compared with published literature as provided by the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society. The "Proclaimer's Book" as well as many Watchtower and Awake magazine publications have also been cited, that beyond any doubt, reveal the difference between "Fact", and "Fiction" relating to many incidents and issues regarding doctrinal teaching, historical accuracy going back to the very beginnings of the WTBTS, and it's founders. The Facts are in black and white. Will Jehovah's Witnesses, act as did the ancient Beroaens, and "Make sure of all things" as relates to the truthful history, and depiction of the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society, The Jehovah's Witnesses, and all of it's subsidiaries? The loving purpose of this organized expose of information has not been intended as a method of personal attack or persecution, but, on the contrary, it has been presented out of love, motivated by present, ex, and former members of Jehovah's Witnesses, as a way to educate, and encourage those persons still registered as active members, to consider their rights as Humans, Created by God to have the ability to make wise decisions, based of having all of the information relating to many different issues surrounding this group of peoples. Our lives are truly at stake, again, as it is a proven fact that improprieties and hidden incidents were represented in a false and misleading manner by the WTBTS, whose sole claim it that God Jehovah of Armies has approved of them only, on this earth, to have the power to offer Salvation alone, through membership in their "God approved and directed Organization". The facts prove otherwise. Will Jehovah's Witnesses Please give consideration to these well-presented evidences of impropriety and falsehood, before burying their minds, and heads in the sand of the ground the Watchtower is built upon? We love all of you, and we desire that none of you perish as followers of a false representative of Jesus Christ, our Lord and King. May you all choose the Blessings, and not the maledictions. Hello Change Name...Sorry if my "tabloid" personality is offensive to you...I try to ask questions that make people think, and respond...you said; I think the most interesting thing you have said was the accusations that the Jehovah's Witnesses are child abusers because of their refusal to comply to a law in Australia. A bit of a stretch if I say so myself. I would call them criminals because they refused to comply with that law. They are not child abusers though." Did you know that the "criminal charges against the organization was financed by a group of children in Australia? If these charges are up-held, the members of the GB will not be "free of accusation" from people on the outside, and they will all have to "step-down" as elders. Please ask a JW what that would mean? I was a member for 40 years, from 19 years old till Dec. of 2010 . I was a Baptist, a Mormon, and a Lutheran prior to the JW's and thought I knew a lot about the Bible, and spiritual things. I am always learning, and I do not think I am anything at all, but a follower of Jesus .. I have always been a love centered man, with a great deal of tolerance for others beliefs, unless they blaspheme Jesus, or His Father.. I am very imperfect, but I keep my moral and spiritual life clean, and my body as presentable to Christ. There will be literally millions upon millions of Christians, calling on the name of Jesus Christ, who will be saved, and many Christians from Jehovah's Witnesses will also be saved. But the leadership of the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society will suffer as "lawless " ones, when Jesus arrives in His Glory to Judge this earth. A "Christian" does NOT need an Organization to be saved...he needs faith in Jesus, and a humble spirit that is obedient to the teaching that Holy Spirit gives us. If you need an organization to be saved, go for it. The Bible teachings of Jehovah's Witnesses are interesting...m ..many of the doctrines are very accurate, and many of the Bible instructional methods are excellent. But what would you expect from a counterfeit Christian organization? Even satan himself keeps transforming himself into an "angel of light". I am not recommending you follow me, or anyone friend. If you are here to bait and blast me, I will not assist you any longer. I don't have all the answers, no-one does...but I do have faith in Jesus, as though He were standing here, now...do you? Your salvation is between yourself and God, but the witnesses do NOT have Jesus right. That "Proclaimers Book" is biased, contains 1/2 truths that are painted in such a way as to glorify and humanize Russell and Rutherford as "normal Christian men"...that sir is a lie. You are in the battle of your life, if you just give in and go with them, it will all be over, but if you fight the good fight, and challenge all of their teachings you might find true peace, and Jes and Jesus, AND Jesus' Father. Do you believe that Jesus body was "dissolved"? It wasn't, but they will have you believing that, and anything else they want you to. Do your research, and remember, Jesus said, "Where two or more are gathered in MY name, there I am also"...you do not need the large organizational facade of membership to be a Christian. but you do need Christian friends...Christ, which the Holy Spirit will provide you with all you need. E-mail me, in a calm fashion, and ask what you will...I will research the scriptures one at a time for your questions...but make them strong, pertinent questions. Regards, Joe Change Name...you call our "documentation"...accusations...you have spewed at me at so many of my posts it is crazy, yet I will still assist you. Find "Barbara Anderson" online, as she wrote much of the "Proclaimer's Book" and she as many others know, will tell you the truth...can you handle the truth? You need to do some work on your own young man, and stop biting and snapping at people who have nothing to gain by exposing the WT, but love from Jesus for exposing the wicked one.

Recommended books for literature?

I need to write an extended essay (4000 words) over for october next year, so I have about one, year, well less, but a lot of time to work on it during the summer. I really need some good books that cover major themes or literary features which I can analyze and discuss in depth. The course I'm doing at school right now is called the IB, and this essay is a major part of our reports. I can't seem to come up with good topic/ research question and I need good book suggestions, of books which are good, quite well-known and have good literary features. For example, I can analyze or compare characters in a book, or talk about a major theme in a book, or compare books with similar themes, analyze or compare poems, talk about what colors symbolize in a certain book talk about literary features in a book ANY IDEAS WILL HELP! classic books, modern fiction, anything I've thought of ideas such as The Giver Jane Eyre The Outsider compared with Gathering Blue Poems by Sylvia Plath HELP PLEASEEE

Informative fiction

Informative fiction: literature through which the reader learns something useful through a fictional story. (Historical fiction is one type of informative fiction) yeah, I've seen that list Brian, but I'm hungry for more...

What is a good book suggestion for class?

I need to find a non fiction book to read for literature, but it has to be about what I am interested in. I enjoy reading about theoretical physics, engineering, and technology, and I would like the book to be about 200 pages. Any good suggestions? IT HAS TO BE NON-FICTION!!!

Why is it that the people who take the bible figuratively, have more of an appreciation of fiction?

they could read magical stories like harry potter , they could read other literature without taking it literally ,

What ballet novel should I choose for my school project?

I am a huge book fanatic. I love fantasy and science fiction and when it comes to school projects I usually pick books off of the classics list. For this book project though, I have to create a movie trailer. I usually am not very good at video editing, but I figured, since I am an avid dancer, I could film a scene at my dance studio of us dancing or whatever the book calls for. I usually would never read a ballet book but now that's what I need. I don't want anything like: this is Mary, she wants to be a ballerina, watch her work hard. I want a very good piece of literature designed for young adults and up. The only dance novel I ever read was "Dancing on my Grave" by Gelsey Kirkland. But of course for this project, the novel must be fiction. Thank-you for all your feedback! (:
