Do you know of any good creative nonfiction/ vignette books?
I need to pick a model author for a writing class I'm taking and I'm wondering if anyone has any book suggestions. I am interested in books/writers of the creative nonfiction genre. I'm interested in writing sort of a patchwork nonfiction style, if you will. More specifically, I'm looking for writers who provide snapshots of various parts of their lives or their opinions of different subjects (vignettes). They can be witty and humorous or more serious. Here are some examples or what I'm looking for:
Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? by Mindy Kaling
Any of Jen Lancaster's books (Bitter is the New Black, My Fair Lazy, Pretty in Plaid, etc.)
Bosspants by Tina Fey
This Is a Book by Demetri Martin
Any of the books by David Sedaris
Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert
Any suggestions would be much appreciated!
how do you know if you're better suited to write nonfiction or fiction?
Is it just me or has the quality and meaning of works of today's writers diminished?
I might only be 19 years old, but I have read a lot of books and I have noticed that recently published books don't even compare to books written long ago. For example, I've bought a bunch of dusty old books about history from Amazon for just a few bucks, and they are so much more substantive and have a higher writing quality than newer history nooks that only try to disprove myths and digress toward irrelevant subjects. I also have never read a high quality novel written in this century (even though I read a lot more nonfiction than fiction). I hope I don't seem too immature or that I am looking for something in books that just do not exist, but am I right?
how would you categorize books into three subjects?
I have to do a report for composition to categorize a subject I enjoy. Well, I overly enjoy books, but I need to categorize books into three different subjects to compare. How would I attempt that? I was thinking fiction, nonfiction, and something else, but I don't what that "something else" should be. Any ideas?
Quite frankly, I'm atheist and I could not give two shits on what Jesus studied. I'm asking, DELIBERATELY ASKING, to categorize books into three subjects. Not different areas of studies that have NOTHING to do with my damn question. Categorizing into three different main genres was more of what I was asking for, as an example. So, before you ignorantly want to post something on Yahoo Answers, maybe you should create an imaginary argument with yourself to see if you are mentally stable enough to answer someone's question, because apparently you just outright do not understand what was asked for you. And to end my little rant there, I will bid you good day, and to the other answer- I will most definitely use Adult Fiction, Teen Fiction, and Nonfiction. Thank you for your help! :)
What would cause feelings of detachment?
Maybe there's a more correct term for that than "detachment", but I don't know how else to explain it. I feel like I've been losing control in a lot of ways, I'm not suicidal, I don't want to die, but I really have no desire to participate anymore, I'd like to just sit back and watch. Obviously that's unrealistic, and probably sounds pretty selfish. But it does feel like my "identity" for lack of a better word is slowly slipping away, I still like to write, but don't really want to be known, I want it to be all anonymous. In other words, I'd rather be a ghost.
I think I'm still in enough control of myself that these odd feelings haven't really made me make any significant bad decisions, school & work still top everything else as far as priorities, yet I seem to have less interest in interacting with people and more interest in just getting lost in a story, either fiction or nonfiction. Love, friendship, it all seems so distant. But what's strange is that I have no idea where this is coming from, I wasn't always like this.
What are some good nonfiction books to read?
I just want to know what some good nonfiction books are but they cannot be biographies of any kind.
Does anyone know where I can find historical journals or literary reviews of the book, Band of Brothers?
Before you list, please make sure the articles come from credible sources. Also I only need reviews for the nonfiction book, not the film series.
Can you recommend some nonfiction books like "Ellen Degeneres' seriously i'm kidding "?
I like easy to read, life lessons, random storys, celebrity's, etc.
Army ranger book??????
So I am very interested in becoming an army ranger once I graduate. I would love a book that is not dated (old), nonfiction and that captures the training and hard tasks and missions they have to overcome. Any ideas?
Good army book?!?!?!?
